Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is at the heart of our company culture; across Illinois, our people are contributing their time, passion, and talent to make their communities better places to live.

What We Do
Turner’s commitment to local communities is reflected in three key areas: partnerships with Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprises, the Turner Foundation, and of course, our staff’s civic and volunteer activities. We are also active in local and national industry associations.

Staff Volunteer Activities
We have a dedicated Turner Chicago Community & Citizenship Director, Pamyla Fountain Brown, that works closely with our Procurement, Preconstruction and Operations groups to both support and develop community-oriented programs and initiatives. For example, our Youth Force 2020 program, active engagement in the ACE Mentor program, work with Rebuilding Together Chicago and our participation in other local and national organizations -- such as Chicago Architecture Foundation, United Way and the City of Hope -- reflect our dedication to responsible corporate citizenship.

Turner School of Construction Management
In 2016, Turner awarded more than $40 million in contracts to Illinois-based Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprises. The Turner School of Construction Management has been offered to these businesses locally since 1988, and the program has graduated more than one thousand students. Turner’s engagement in the M/WBE subcontracting community has also included projects with robust community outreach and engagement plans such as the Redevelopment of Soldier Field, Ogden School, various projects with the University of Chicago and multiple Advocate Healthcare projects among many others.

Turner Construction Company Foundation
The Turner Foundation began supporting causes in Illinois communities and not-for-profit organizations through grants, gifts and service in 2000. The organization, led by Turner staff volunteers who have raised nearly $3 million since its inception, donates to deserving local organizations through funds raised at the Foundation Golf Outing and the Foundation’s Annual Poker Tournament.

Industry Association Partnerships and Memberships

Turner continues to engage the local contracting and assist agencies to present to its memberships, including, AACA, BCU, FWC, HACIA and the Chicago Minority Development Council.  As members of each of these organizations, Turner works with the staff to help identify events to promote upcoming and current opportunities. Through numerous outreach and training programs, we work with and support the growth of minority and woman-owned contractors as well as suppliers, educators, students and many other community-based organizations. Turner is also active in the community beyond construction.  Across the state, Turner and its employees are contributing time, treasure and talent to make their communities better places to live; reflecting the corporation’s commitment to good citizenship and partnership.
