Become a SubcontractorClimate change is one of the biggest global challenges facing us today. The built environment is responsible for as much as 40% of global greenhouse gases annually, and the construction industry must do its part. As the largest green builder in the United States, we are dedicated to improving the environmental performance and resilience of our projects, our operations, and our business – for our clients, our communities, and each other.
Over the past two decades, we have delivered more than 1,000 green building projects, which represent more than $60 billion worth of work. We have also committed ourselves to decarbonizing the construction process. Together with our clients and partners, we continue to move the baseline – defining and re-defining what it means to build green by setting and achieving ever-more rigorous standards.
We are reducing the resource consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and carbon footprint of our jobsites.
We are cutting our jobsite water consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by the end of the decade.
We are mindful of the waste our jobsites generate, diverting construction waste from landfills—more than four three million tons of waste from landfill since we began our tracking program!
Our teams are actively monitoring resource consumption on projects of all types and sizes, identifying the top users of jobsite fuel, energy, and water. And we are putting that information to work, implementing reduction strategies such as electrifying our fleet, piloting hybrid and electric construction equipment, requiring all site lighting to be LED and banning vehicle idling.
We are engaging our supply chain, clients, and design partners to reduce the embodied carbon of building materials.
We are committed partners in the industry movement to reimagine a low carbon, responsible, and resilient future. Some of our partnerships include MEP 2040, The Clean Fight, C40 Clean
We see climate adaptation as a critical component of our built future. We actively address acute and chronic weather impacts in our jobsite and project planning.
The increase in fires, floods, hurricanes, and other severe weather is driving increased interest in building resilience — the capacity of our built environment to withstand, and recover from, these extreme events.
Together with our clients, on new construction projects and through retrofits, we are working to create buildings that do just that: stay safe and keep occupants safe in the event of environmental and climate crises, and then quickly return to normal operations once the crisis has passed.
We offer our expertise about resilience at every step of a building project — from construction phase events that can cause delays or dangerous working conditions, to occupied building events that interrupt the lives and work of our clients.
We collaborate with thought leaders and other organizations to promote awareness about building resilience and work to drive process and technology innovations that advance the sustainability and resilience of our whole industry.
Our Sustainability Management Team, the Turner Engineering Group, and over 750 credentialed staff provide technical support and actionable solutions to project teams around the world, from estimating and procurement through project turnover. We hold expertise in net-zero construction, mass timber, embodied carbon analysis, job site emissions tracking, resilience analysis, and more.
