Development of Runway 10R-28L at O'Hare International Airport, Runway 10R-28L included site preparation, paving, lighting, utility infrastructure, and signage for an added runway/taxiway.
Site preparation required moving approximately 3.6 million cubic yards of earth and the construction of two large scale reinforced concrete tunnels. Subsequent work included paving a 17-inch Portland Cement Concrete runway, 7,500 feet long and 150 feet wide, with CAT II/III instrument approaches and associated, 75-foot-wide connecting taxiways.
The project received the 2014 and 2015 Illinois Road and Transportation Builders Association (IRTBA) Contractor of the Year Award and the 2015 Lake County Contractor’s Association Project of the Year and Safety Award.
