NYU Langone Health, The Helen L. & Martin S. Kimmel Pavilion

Turner provided construction management services for the Kimmel Pavilion is the culmination of more than a decade of planning and reflects the team's commitment to construction excellence. The 21-story, 830,000 sq. ft. facility includes the Hassenfeld Children's Hospital. Two of the challenges the team overcame were recovering from Super Storm Sandy, and constructing directly above active Amtrak tunnels and a sewer outflow. Kimmel also marked numerous firsts for New York City: first hospital to provide private rooms for all patients and the first building to implement a flood resiliency program. As well, Kimmel was the first hospital in New York to adopt a modular approach to design using prefabricated bathroom pods throughout. The decision to prefabricate the bathrooms allowed for the "same-handed" design of the rooms; a design that is proven to reduce medical errors.
