Turner, in association with Smoot Construction Company, was selected to provide services for the Nationwide Children's Replacement Hospital. The 12-story replacement hospital adds approximately 750,000 sq. ft. to the existing two-million square foot main hospital, and includes a basement level, mechanical penthouse, and heliport atop the 12-story structure. The total estimated patient capacity has expanded to 302-inpatient bed spaces. The Patient Tower includes: - private patient rooms with state-of-the-art patient care technology and expanded space to accommodate family care-givers - a Hematology/Oncology/Blood and Marrow Transplant unit with 36 inpatient beds, and 15 infusion beds; a new neurodiagnostics center to accommodate 48 beds with EEG, and a floor of 30 beds dedicated to pediatric intensive care patients with a second intensive care unit of 20 beds dedicated to heart and transplant care - an emergency department that increases support for Ohio's first Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. The new department also includes family support services and rooms dedicated to the assessment of alleged child abuse trauma, and dental, eye, and orthopedic emergencies - dining spaces and family lounges on each floor, and age-appropriate playroom/activity areas throughout the hospital - an inviting magic forest with large basswood animal sculptures and trees, a full-size diorama of a sound enhanced aviary, and a performance/theater space with advanced audio-visual equipment and wheelchair/bed accessibility - 6 acres dedicated to an outdoor park and green space area.
