Turner Reinforces Commitment to Mental Health During Construction Suicide Prevention Week

“See You Tomorrow” campaign encourages people to look out for one another and reinforces that safety includes both physical and mental well-being.

Turner is participating in Construction Suicide Prevention Week as part of an ongoing focus on mental health and suicide prevention. Turner’s “See You Tomorrow” campaign is encouraging people to check in with one another, have conversations about mental health, and know where to turn for support.

This work is grounded in a culture of Active Caring—actively looking out for one another and acting when someone may need support—and in a commitment that The Worker is More Important Than the Work. No schedule, deadline, or project is more important than the well-being of the people doing the work.

“Safety means caring for the whole person and their overall well-being,” said Steve Spaulding, Senior Vice President and Chief Environmental Health and Safety Officer at Turner. “Asking for help is a sign of strength, and taking a moment to check in with someone can make a real difference.  We want every person on our job sites to know this: your life matters, you are not alone, and it is always okay to ask for help. Whether you are dealing with challenges at work or in your personal life, support is available, and reaching out for yourself or someone else can save a life.”

Turner offices and project sites are holding toolbox talks, incorporating mental health check-ins into huddles, displaying “See You Tomorrow” banners, and creating opportunities for people to talk about mental health and the importance of looking out for one another.

Turner is also promoting the Stronger than the Silence video series, developed through a partnership between the Turner Foundation, SAFE Project and the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention. The videos feature industry workers sharing personal experiences with mental health, suicide, grief, and recovery to help reduce stigma and encourage conversations that can make a difference.

Turner is also raising awareness of resources available to people who may need support. Turner employees have access to mental health support through Lyra, while the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available to anyone in the United States who needs crisis support.

On September 14, Turner projects will participate in a Construction Suicide Prevention Week stand-down and moment of silence to remember those lost to suicide. Projects will also welcome speakers who will help people recognize when someone may be struggling, start a conversation, and connect them with support.

Construction Suicide Prevention Week brings attention to an issue Turner is focused on throughout the year. Turner is working alongside organizations and leaders across the construction industry to increase awareness, reduce stigma, encourage people to seek help, and identify ways the industry can take collective action to prevent suicide.

One of the construction industry’s great strengths is its ability to come together around safety. Over decades, the industry has demonstrated that deeply rooted cultures and behaviors can change when people unite around a common purpose.

Turner is committed to bringing that same focus to mental health and suicide prevention. “See You Tomorrow” is a reminder to actively care for one another—to check in when something doesn’t seem right and make sure people know they are not alone.
