Turner Advances Programs to Support Mental Health and Suicide Prevention

More than 100,000 people across 1,000 jobsites and offices to take part in Turner’s largest-ever suicide prevention program, part of a $5 million commitment in conjunction with the Turner Foundation to strengthen mental health and wellbeing in the construction industry.

Turner Construction Company is marking Suicide Awareness Month and Construction Suicide Prevention Week (September 8–12, 2025) with events that demonstrate a profound commitment to mental health and suicide prevention. Over the course of the week, more than 100,000 people across 1,000 Turner jobsites and offices will participate in conversations, stand-downs, and awareness activities—all designed to reduce stigma, foster connection, and guide individuals toward life-saving mental health resources. This coordinated effort represents the largest suicide prevention initiative in Turner’s history.

The construction industry faces a suicide rate nearly four times higher than the national average, with more workers lost to suicide each year than to jobsite accidents. Turner’s message is stronger than awareness—it is a promise: no one is ever alone.

Actions to Save Lives and Support Mental Health

Turner is engaging its workforce with programs designed to foster connection and ensure every individual knows that help is available:

·       Lyra Health Launch – Turner introduced Lyra Health as a mental health benefit for employees and their families. Lyra offers confidential counseling, coaching, and therapy, along with tools to manage stress, strengthen resilience, and access crisis care anytime. This cost-free benefit for employees reflects Turner’s promise that reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

·       Education and Awareness – Turner is rolling out Mental Health Training for employees. Toolbox Talks and dedicated sessions on suicide prevention will bring vital conversations into daily safety events on more than 1,000 jobsites and offices. More than 100,000 people will hear messages of encouragement and care during these sessions.

·       Industry Partnerships – Turner is an active member of the Hard Hat Courage coalition with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), and the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention joining other industry leaders to expand construction-specific resources and training for suicide prevention.

A Culture of Active Caring

“Respect, dignity, and active caring are the foundation of our culture,” said Peter Davoren, Chairman and CEO of Turner Construction Company. “At Turner, people come first, and the worker is always more important than the work. We want every person on our jobsites to know they are valued and that support is available. It is our responsibility to look out for one another and ensure no one feels they are facing life’s challenges alone.”

Turner’s Active Caring culture is built on checking in with one another, listening without judgment, and ensuring support is always within reach. Backing this commitment, Turner in conjunction with the Turner Foundation has pledged $5 million over five years to strengthen mental health and wellbeing resources for employees and the people it welcomes into its workplace.

By embedding mental health into its safety culture, Turner continues to participate in an industry-wide movement that prioritizes physical safety and emotional wellbeing.
