The project required the demolition of the original 65,000 Henning Building, which housed the Departments of Veterinary and Biomedical Science and Department of Animal Science, and included a vivarium. The Animal, Veterinary and Biomedical Science Building will be approximately 100,000 square feet and will contain a vivarium, department offices, research labs, teaching labs, faculty offices, and auxiliary spaces for the Departments of Animal, Veterinary and Biomedical Science, along with general purpose classrooms and a mechanical/electrical penthouse.
The building's exterior wall will be stone, brick, glass and metal panel, and there will be a green roof above the first floor. The building will be connected to the adjacent Agriculture Sciences and Industries Building via a glass-enclosed corridor at the first, second and third floors. Scheduled for competition October of 2021, the building is seeking LEED Silver certification.
