100 Federal Street Atrium

project at a glance

The Exchange at 100 Federal Street is located in the heart of Boston's financial district. This 27,500 square foot enclosed steel and glass geometric structure converted the outdoor plaza to a four-season atrium. This year-round public assembly and function area includes three restaurant spaces, a coffee kiosk, and a media wall. The project scope also included converting 59,500 square feet of office, bank vault, and cafeteria space directly below the structure to additional parking.

The graceful and sophisticated glass and steel structure of the Exchange, encloses a form of public space in Boston’s financial district. Known for being a destination for remote work, the building enables occupants the feeling of working outside, without your papers blowing away. Long wooden community tables become social condensers for writing e-mails, taking conference calls, or bumping into a colleague. A linear granite planter along the rising structure becomes a place for informal gatherings or individual retreats. The Exchange recognizes the everyday work experience and constructs an urban stage for these events to happen. Simply put, diverse work environments are necessary for the diverse individuals who work there.

Designed by Perkins+Will, the re-imagined Exchange at 100 Federal Street structure accommodates the multitude of public and private dining events such as concerts, panel discussions, and corporate galas.
