Sports Authority Field at Mile High, home of the Denver Broncos, is an open-air, natural grass facility was opened for the 2001 NFL season. The 1.7 million square foot, 76,125-seat stadium has a horseshoe-shaped footprint that is open to the south. Five concourse levels are made of poured-in-place, two-way post-tensioned concrete slabs. The concourses wrap around three seating bowls made of steel treads and risers, supported by a system of rakers and stringers. The upper bowl rises and dips to make an undulating profile.
Maintaining seating that is close to the field, a feature carried over from the old Mile High Stadium, was critical to the team. By cantilevering the upper and middle bowls over the suites below, more seats are positioned closer to the playing field. The curved shape of the upper bowl also permits more seats in areas of preferred site lines.
