Jefferson-Houston PK-8 School

project at a glance

The  Jefferson-Houston School, which replaces the original Jefferson-Houston -- a building which did not meet current and future educational program and sustainability requirements -- is designed to answer the steady increase in student enrollment in Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS). The two-story, 120,000 square foot school, which serves approximately 800 students, houses 43 classrooms and features a white box theater and media center.

The LEED Silver design, which has earned the project significant community interest, emphasizes STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) and includes spaces for multiple functions and extensive collaboration between students, staff, and visiting teachers.

Site development  included demolition of the original school building, and updates to an adjacent facility. In the second phase of this project, sports fields and play areas will be installed on the site of the demolished structure.
