Turner provided construction services for a 23-story multi-use facility at New York University. The building included 250,000 sq. ft. of academic housing, 195,000 sq. ft. of performance space, and a 150,000 sq. ft. athletic center, 4 basketball courts, and an Olympic-size swimming pool. It also featured 58 new classrooms, a 350-seat theatre, two 140-seat theaters, studios, and rehearsal rooms. Considering the project's proximity to residences in Greenwich Village, the team developed the construction schedule with the community in mind.

Maximizing efficiency: Lean Construction practices enable success and collaboration

The approved schedule did not allow for overtime or weekend work, posing production challenges for the team. To overcome these restricted hours, the team employed lean construction practices to maximize field production. For example, collaborative pull planning sessions were conducted with trade partners to ensure the efficient sequencing of all work. Other planned lean activities included a 6-week lookahead schedule and the use of Last Planner to ensure peak field performance during the allotted hours. The project is pursuing a LEED Gold Certification.
