Turner provided construction management for this 150,000 sq. ft., six-gate terminal extension at John F. Kennedy International Airport Terminal 5 for JetBlue Airways. The extension was built over the old Terminal 6 site. Site work included drilling into the foundations, removing piles, driving new piles, and the relocation and installation of utilities. The terminal extension included three new gates, three relocated gates and three new hardstand gates being relocated from the existing terminal. The extension's steel structure was tied into the existing Terminal 5 and above Sky Walk structure. The most extensive system tie-in was the baggage claim system which required working several hundred feet into the terminal, and upgrading plumbing and electrical systems. The interiors of the project included arrival concourses, concession areas, a passenger lounge, and a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Hall. The CBP area included 26 booths, holding rooms, search/screening rooms and office space. From start to finish, the project required extensive coordination with the Port Authority of NY and NJ and US CBP. In 2008 Turner completed JetBlue's existing Terminal 5, a 640,000 sq. ft., 26-gate terminal located on a 72-acre site. Turner also completed the demolition of Terminal 6 to make way for this addition.
