J.R. Payden Field House and Payden Park

Derby's State of the Payden Park and Art Field House

This project included a new two-story 23,000 sq. ft. field house, and the new Payden baseball Field. The site improvements included a new site stair, a connection to the existing school and a new parking lot. This project was funded entirely by a private donor and is named for Joseph R. Payden, a 1915 Derby High baseball player and valedictorian who graduated from Yale and flew missions in World War I.

Project Scope

This project included a new two-story 23,000 sq. ft. field house, and the new Payden baseball Field. The site work included a 30 foot high soiled nailed retaining wall expanding the footprint from an existing softball field to a regulation hardball field. The Field House's outside porches allow views of the baseball field on one side and the football field on the other. Interior features include traditional locker rooms and offices, a banquet hall and a memorabilia room with exposed glulam beams. 

The entire field including infield and warning track utilize synthetic turf.  The site improvements include a new site stair, a connection to the existing school, and a new parking lot. This project was funded entirely by a private donor and is named for Joseph R. Payden, a 1915 Derby High baseball player and valedictorian who graduated from Yale and flew missions in World War I.
