Turner provided construction management services for the renovation and revitalization of David Geffen Hall, a part of New York City's Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts campus in Manhattan. The concert hall is home to the New York Philharmonic and hosts a variety of other public and private events.
As we worked together to transform David Geffen Hall, our workforce development program introduced New Yorkers living in the local community to a rewarding career in the construction industry. 30 program participants graduated from a five-week, full-time paid in-classroom course. Graduates also received one-on-one mentorship and trained onsite at David Geffen Hall with the goal of full-time employment with Turner or with one of our trade partners.
In 1962, Turner completed David Geffen Hall, the first building on campus. Since then Turner has completed the Alice Tully Hall, Illumination Lawn, the Lincoln Center Restaurants, and the Julliard School.
David Geffen Hall has a footprint of approximately 306,000 sq. ft. and has six above-grade levels in addition to a cellar and partial sub-cellar. The renovation included the refurbishment of the hall, front, and back of house spaces, with structural upgrades throughout. The rectilinear shoebox space will be transformed into a curvilinear music hall. Opened on schedule in 2022 with a new, fresh look that punctuates the aesthetic of the concert hall, Turner is proud to have revitalized another New York City icon.
