James R. Herman Terminal

From Blueprint to Waterfront Gateway

Pier 27 was transformed to house the James R. Herman Cruise Ship Terminal. The year-round cruise terminal loads and unloads passengers from three ports of call. The terminal is also a community facility for special events and includes a 2.5 acre public plaza for gathering passengers and the general public to view ships in port. James R. Herman Cruise Terminal was built in two phases to accommodate the 34th America’s Cup (AC34) from January 2013 to April 2014. Phase 1 consisted of demolishing the Pier 27 maritime shed, partial demolition of the non-historic portion of the Pier 29 shed, relocation of the shoreside power equipment, and the construction of the core and shell of the Cruise Terminal project. Phase 2 included completing the interior spaces specific to the needs of the Cruise Terminal, landscaping, and the public plaza. LEED Gold certified.
