The University of Texas System

This project included a 14,000 sq. ft. renovation on the fifth floor of an existing vivarium building on the University of Texas Medical Branch’s Galveston campus for the Institute of Drug Discovery (IDD). SIDD consists of roughly 9,365 sq. ft. of programmed spaces and was designed for 24 researchers performing medicinal chemistry synthesis in one large open laboratory with associated desking.
Adjacent to this are the support labs with fume hoods and BSCs, consisting of an NMR suite, LC/MS suite, tissue culture, protein production, assay development, microscopy, chemical storage, fridge/freezer room, and a cold room. There are 10 offices around the exterior of the building, as well as meeting rooms and an area for open collaboration.
In addition to the lab fit-out on Level 5, the project also involved setting new exhaust fans on the Level 6 roof, a new AHU installed via exterior removable panels on the mechanical floor, and substantial in-sequence modifications on existing building AHUs to increase capacity for redundancy.
