An award-winning addition to the DAC

Turner provided preconstruction and construction services for this 82,500 sq. ft., 3-story addition to the existing Daskalakis Athletic Center (DAC) to accommodate recreation and intramural and club sports. The new facility includes a 13,000 sq. ft., two-court multi-purpose gym; a 1/10th mile suspended walking/jogging track; 18,000 sq. ft. for weights and fitness equipment; a 30’ climbing wall; two 1,500 sq. ft. exercise rooms; a 1,700 sq. ft. administrative suite with four offices, a conference room and a kitchenette; locker, storage, and equipment rooms; and 6,000 sq. ft. of commercial shell space on the lower level along Market Street. Two squash courts and a seating area for viewing were also incorporated. The Recreation Center achieved 3 Green Globes, the international equivalency to LEED® Certification which places the burden of document management and accreditation on the project team, making them more intimately involved in the green processes of the building.
