Queensbury Union Free School District, 2020 Legacy Planning Capital Project

Revamping and Modernizing the Inflexible, Mid-20th Century High School Building to Modern Expectations

The 2020 Legacy Planning Capital Project encompassed the reorganizing and renovation of the rigid, mid-century high school structure to highlight three interdisciplinary instructional communities including Humanities, STEM and Fine and Performing Arts. Construction of a 16,000 sq. ft. addition building houses a new gymnasium, which replaced the previous wood gymnasium, now used for the new media center and support services. The project also increased community spaces by opening the cafeteria to the lobby, relocating the media center and renovating the auditorium. Located directly off the main entrance, the auditorium received a complete renovation to modernize the space, address acoustical issues, and upgrade lighting and sound technology. Meeting modern expectations, art classrooms now serve as studios with natural light, high ceilings, and visual connectivity. STEM areas support hands-on learning and innovation, including a top-notch innovation lab, media production room, robotics lab, and shared makerspaces. Enhanced security, energy conservation, and site work, including parking lots, were also addressed.
