Harrah's Cherokee Casino and Hotel Creek Tower wins ABC Carolina Project of the Year

November 21, 2011

At the Excellence in Construction Awards ceremony November 17th, the Carolina chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors recognized Turner Construction Company with the association's highest honor.

The Project of the Year is chosen from projects in multiple market segments. Dozens of applications were reviewed and considered and four finalists were selected. The Creek Tower won top honors over the Boeing 787 Dreamliner Final Assembly Building in Charleston; the UNC Charlotte Center City Classroom Building in Charlotte; and Honda Aircraft Company Production Facility in Greensboro.

The selection committee noted several achievements of the project, including a “no-excuse” schedule deadline, an unforgiving winter in the NC mountains and the use of efficient LEAN construction practices.  Also of interest to the panel, was Turner’s effort to reinvest the project dollars into the Cherokee community by working with TERO (Tribal Employment Rights Office) certified sub-contractors and vendors.

After the ceremony, Turner Vice President and S.E. Region Operations Manager, Dan VonKossovsky stated: “We proudly serve as the Construction Manager for Harrah’s-Cherokee Hotel & Casino. It has been an extremely rewarding relationship which has grown over three years.  We share this award with our employees, sub-contractors and the design team led by Cuningham Group.  We dedicate this recognition to our client and the enrolled members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians they represent.”
