Turner-Wohlsen JV to Deliver $100 Million Expansion of Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art

Team to build new museum and expand campus into 325-acre public art and nature destination.

The Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art announced an approximately $100 million campus transformation and expansion project that will reimagine its 15-acre site into a dynamic cultural destination connecting art, nature, and community.

The project will be delivered by a Turner-Wohlsen Joint Venture and includes construction of a new 40,000-square-foot museum building designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates in association with Schwartz/Silver Architects Inc. The project also features significant renovations to the Museum’s historic Mill building, preserving its legacy while enhancing the visitor experience.

The project will transform the surrounding landscape into a 325-acre public preserve and garden designed by Field Operations. The expanded grounds will feature ten miles of trails that connect the two museum buildings and create a continuous loop through the evolving landscape. Visitors will experience a journey linking the studios of renowned American artists N.C. Wyeth and Andrew Wyeth, further deepening the site’s cultural and historical significance.

The campus will function as one museum across two buildings—unified by a scenic preserve that offers immersive opportunities for exploration, education, and inspiration. Enhancements will include a new interactive exhibit within the Mill building, as well as interpretive experiences along the trails that highlight the Conservancy’s environmental stewardship and artistic heritage.

“We are honored to partner with the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art on this extraordinary project,” said Matt Curry, Senior Project Manager, Turner. “This transformation will create a wonderful experience where visitors can engage with art, history, and the natural environment in new and meaningful ways. It’s exciting to be part of a project that will have such a lasting cultural impact.”

“With more than 40 years of experience in the region and a long-standing relationship with the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art, it is especially meaningful to be part of a project that will enhance such an iconic cultural and natural resource,” said Michael Berardi, Senior Vice President, Wohlsen Construction.
