Turner Construction Company is pleased to announce that the team working on the Turner and Martin-Harris Joint Venture project at the Las Vegas Convention Center held the topping out ceremony to honor the tradesmen and tradeswomen who are making the project a reality.
More than 800 workers gathered together to sign the commemorative final beam that was hoisted into the frame of the expansion project’s new 600,000 square foot exhibit hall. The American flag was also unveiled and hung at the site.
"Our goal for the topping out celebration was to honor the tradesmen and tradeswomen’s commitment to the project," said Ryan Nordin, construction executive for Turner. "The event showcased our gratitude and respect for those who endured long hours, day and night, in the Las Vegas heat to achieve this major milestone. The event offered our ability to thank the predecessor trades leading up to the topping out milestone and welcome the new trades who will soon take the lead on major successor work. The event was a success to our leadership goal to be the best construction project in Las Vegas in safety, pride and environment in a highly competitive Las Vegas labor market."
More than 2,200 individual tradespeople, representing 81 different firms, have performed work on the jobsite. On average, there are approximately 800 tradesmen and tradeswomen on the project site daily with 85% being Nevada residents who are keeping the Southern Nevada community strong. More than 200 of the tradespeople who have helped build this project are U.S. Military Veterans.
The total size of the entire building will be approximately 1.4 million square feet. The phase broke ground last year in 2018, and will be finished in late 2020.
