Turner Reaches Major Milestones on Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s Cancer Pavilion in Florida

Turner Construction Company has reached major milestones in the development of the Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The project team recently completed the structural topping out of a new outpatient facility, which will be named the Milman-Kover Cancer Pavilion, and successfully set a premanufactured pedestrian bridge over the Sarasota hospital’s main thoroughfare.

To celebrate these milestones, a “Sign the Wall” event was held, where donors, leadership, and medical staff inscribed messages of love and hope onto the concrete walls that will be permanently embedded within the building’s foundation.

The seven-story, 220,000-square-foot Cancer Pavilion will house a comprehensive suite of oncology services, including outpatient radiation oncology, surgical suites, diagnostic imaging, a new breast health center, infusion services, physician offices, and patient support services. Designed with the future in mind, the Pavilion also includes shell space to accommodate anticipated growth in services and capacity.

The pedestrian bridge will connect the Pavilion to the existing inpatient Oncology Tower to the south, and the Pavilion is also connected to a new parking structure to the north, creating a seamless, patient-centered care experience across the campus. The bridge was assembled offsite, and the precise planning and installation minimized disruption to hospital operations and delivery of patient care.

“These milestones are a testament to the collaboration and dedication of our entire project team,” said Steven Soso, Senior Project Manager, Turner Construction Company. “We are proud to partner with Sarasota Memorial Hospital, the design team, and the local community to deliver a facility that will not only expand access to advanced cancer care but also bring comfort and convenience to patients and families impacted by cancer. Successfully completing this project is very personal to me having lived through what my mum experienced with breast cancer.”

“In addition to our project team, we have a team of trade partners who have done a great job getting us to this point,” said Matthew Miranda, Senior Project Superintendent, Turner Construction Company. “This has been a truly collaborative effort between all stakeholders.”

The Pavilion is scheduled to open its doors to patients in early 2026.
