Turner and County of San Diego Celebrate Opening of New Substance Use Treatment Center

New South Bay facility expands access to residential treatment and recuperative care services.

Turner joined the County of San Diego and community partners to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the new Substance Use Residential & Treatment Services (SURTS) center in National City, marking an important investment in behavioral health services in the South Bay.

The celebration was attended by County and state officials, representatives from the facility’s new operator, Platt/Whitelaw Architects, Turner, and other project partners.

The $29 million facility provides 73 residential treatment beds and 16 recuperative care beds. The center integrates substance use treatment and recuperative care services under one roof.

The transformed campus features 24 dormitory rooms, program and administrative spaces, exterior courtyards, and modernized kitchen and laundry facilities.

“This project represents an important investment in the health and well-being of the South Bay community,” said Craig Lanza, Special Projects Division Manager, Turner. “We are proud to have worked alongside the County of San Diego, Platt/Whitelaw Architects, our trade partners, and the entire project team to create a welcoming environment where people can receive the care and support they need.”

The center is expected to serve approximately 500 people annually through residential treatment and another 167 people through recuperative care. Services will include withdrawal management, medication management, and care coordination to support people throughout treatment and recovery.
