RAMP Program through the Wentworth Institute of Technology

RAMP Program through the Wentworth Institute of Technology

For eight years, Turner Boston has been working with Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT) to grow and develop their RAMP Program. RAMP is a six-week summer bridge program designed for first year college students who are residents of Boston. The goal of the program is to familiarize incoming students with project-based college work, and meet classmates from similar backgrounds before they arrive on campus.

Six-weeks of enhanced skill development

Through our partnership with WIT and RAMP, two Turner staff members created a mentorship program that pairs students who completed the six-week RAMP program, with working professionals for a one-on-one mentorship during their first year of school, and often beyond. With over 40 staff members at Turner having graduated from WIT, we had seven mentor/student pairs during the pilot program, and that number has grown each year up to the 20 partnerships we had during the last program. In addition to the one-on-one mentorships, Turner has hosted several site tours for 40+ students, including an in-depth virtual tour of one of our largest projects in 2020.

“I’m proud to be a part of the RAMP Mentorship program, being a RAMP and WIT alumni, it’s important that I take the opportunity to give back and support the next cohort of students,” Jeffrey Huey, Senior Project Accountant, Turner Boston. “Every time I meet new students I always tell them the quote “You will miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” it’s important to me that the students learn that every opportunity they have in college could alter their success.”

Throughout our partnership with RAMP and WIT, we have had 12 co-ops come to work for Turner through the program, five of which became full-time hires. We look forward to continuing our work with WIT and RAMP and enabling our industry to best represent our city.
