Turner Construction Company celebrates the inauguration of Merdeka 118 by the King of Malaysia. Turner served as the project management consultant for the development that includes Merdeka 118, a retail mall, residence towers, and infrastructure works. Since 2011, more than 76 million work hours have been completed on the development. With a height of 678.9 meters and 118 floors, Merdeka 118 is officially the second tallest building in the world.
“We are so proud to see the inauguration of this magnificent tower, after overcoming so many difficulties and challenges,” said C.J Chen, Country Manager and Project Director, Turner in Malaysia. “It was incredibly rewarding to work with the client, consultants and contractors on this monumental project that is one of the greenest skyscrapers in the world. This was a total team effort.”
The opening of Merdeka 118 adds another mega-tall building to Turner’s portfolio. Turner has worked on more than 100 skyscrapers – defined as 150-meter (492 feet) tall or more. Turner’s experience includes Taipei 101 and Burj Khalifa. Taipei 101 was completed in 2004. It was the world’s tallest building until 2010 when the Burj Khalifa – the current tallest building in the world – was completed.
