In line with Turner’s 2030 vision, our diverse recruiting efforts have effectively evolved over the past year.  This evolution positively impacts diverse recruiting results across the hiring landscape - from interns through college recruits and experienced hires.

Our efforts include strengthening Turner’s relationships by growing our presence at targeted Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI), and universities with strong Minority Engineering, Construction Sciences and Architecture programs.  We continue to establish scholarship programs and leverage Turner’s Early ID program to increase the pipeline of diverse talent nationally.

Collaboration between recruiting and Turner business units has resulted in a distinct increase in diverse talent in multiple BUs across the company.

Jack Sanogo, Assistant Superintendent with the Portland BU, shared this feedback: “Recruiting at Texas Southern University and Prairie View was a great experience.  As a Northwest recruiter, I got a chance to talk about the Northwest to perspective candidates, understand student priorities, and help the Turner team determine whether or not candidates value the same principles and workplace culture the company provides.”

We have worked to strengthen our partnerships with professional organizations such as the National Society for Black Engineers (NSBE), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), the Society of Asian Scientist & Engineers (SASE), and Out for Undergrad (O4U) with positive results.

To create potential interest among the younger generation, we reached out to high school students broadening their awareness of opportunities within the construction industry and specifically at Turner.

Additionally, through our partnership with the ACE Mentor Program, seventy-five students broadened their knowledge of the construction industry by shadowing Turner employees as part of the summer externship program.

These accomplishments are a result of the steadfast dedication of a team of individuals who help pave the way for impactful change around diverse recruiting at Turner today and going forward. This team includes, Bri’Shae Anderson, Chicago, Leon Lynn, Des Moines, Mike Mascarina, Headquarters, Katie Igoe, Headquarters, Marjorie St Elin, New York, T’masia Caldwell, New York, Geoff Moore, Denver, and Trevon Heath, Houston.

Diverse recruiting plays a critical role in Turner’s goals around diversity, equity, and inclusiveness - particularly our efforts to hire people who reflect the places where we work and exemplify Turner’s values. As we forge new relationships and strengthen existing ones, our recruiting efforts are making a difference in the lives of individuals, communities we serve, and the future of our company.  It is invaluable work that will have positive effects for generations to come.
