When Turner first volunteered with Share Food Program – the largest-serving hunger relief organization in the Philadelphia region – the team’s impact set a record for the non-profit organization.
“We actively seek out opportunities to make a difference in the community,” said Rodney Davis, Community & Citizenship Manager. “At the Share Food Program, we started the day like we normally would with a safety moment and a Stretch & Flex. But when Steve Malloy said to the team, ‘Today’s about to be different, we’re going to set a record,’ I knew we were going to really leave a positive impact.”
The previous record – 804 boxes of food packed during a single volunteer shift – seemed like a stretch for Turner’s team of first-time Share Food Program volunteers.
During their four-hour shift, Turner volunteers worked to sort and pack 32-pound boxes of nutritious food and then loaded the boxes into caravans ready to distribute to seniors in need.
“We made the experience memorable, and the Share Food Program made it fun,” added Leone Jackson, Community & Citizenship Program Senior Specialist. “For some of us, it was our first volunteer experience with Turner. It was an opportunity to connect with others from our office and spend part of the day making someone’s life a little bit better.”
At the end of the four-hour shift, the numbers were in. Turner’s final count was 834 boxes, a new record.
