NYU Physics Lab

project at a glance

The New York University (NYU) Physics project, located at 726 Broadway consisted of three distinct phases: 1) an infrastructure upgrade; 2) a multi-floor laboratory build-out, and 3) a prefabricated penthouse mechanical plant. The project’s success was attributed to the team’s implementation of lean construction practices. As a result, complex site logistics were overcome and the work was effectively planned around student and faculty activity.

The infrastructure phase included the conversion of a gravity water system to a pressurized system. The fit-out phased included the replacement of over 100 landmarked windows and extensive MEP upgrades to support complex laboratory equipment. Finally, the new mechanical penthouse that powers the entire building features new cooling towers, fire suppression tanks, back-up generators, and specialty exhaust systems.
