On behalf of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Corporation, Turner repositioned Building 127, built originally in 1904. The landmarked building is home to a modern manufacturing facility, and will support more than 300 jobs. Designed by S9 Architecture, the 95,000 square foot, multi-floor space features column-free floor plates, an open-truss ceiling, and modern shipping/receiving facilities.
Given the building’s landmarked status, the project team coordinated the scope of work with various agencies to ensure historic features are preserved while the building was brought to current standards. For example, to complete the façade replacement the project team procured 8,000 bricks that match the existing masonry. In addition, the team developed a sequencing strategy that will enable them to safely replace more than 100, 11 by 14 windows.
