Turner constructed National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey, a 60,000 square foot immersive multi-media museum located at 226 West 44th Street. The scope of work included the installation of a 30-foot tall 3-D Dome Theater, interactive motion cameras, and a state-of-the-art HD façade projection mapping installation. Situated on three (3) levels, the project required ten months of detailed preconstruction planning.
Key to the project’s overall success was Turner’s ability to sequence the work with consultants including Kraftwerk and Falcon’s Treehouse, who were not based in New York. The coordination resulted in the development of “micro-schedules” and phasing plans that ensured every technical feature was fully understood. Ultimately, last minute design changes were handled effectively and the attraction opened on time and within budget.
