Managing Increased Enrollments, Strengthening Security, and Creating Enhanced Learning Environments

Facilities improvements included the creation of flexible learning spaces that allow for hands-on, project-based learning in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM); additional classroom space to address the continued enrollment growth at the elementary level and security upgrades that have strengthened safety at each school. Early phases entailed the addition of a fifth hall to transform the 7-8 junior high to a 6-8 middle school model, a new library/media center and renovations to classrooms and learning spaces, as well as site work and construction of fields at the Shaker Junior High and Shaker High School campuses. Blue Creek, Boght Hills and Southgate elementary schools also received new classrooms and spaces conducive to more project-based learning. Additionally, Turner provided services for the installation of a multi-sport artificial turf field and construction of new tennis courts. The later phase of the project encompassed renovations at Forts Ferry, Loudonville and Latham Ridge. In addition, the counseling and administrative offices at Shaker High School were relocated and special education classroom spaces were expanded.
