The historic James Blair Middle School was built in the early 1920’s. The renovation and modernization project included significant upgrades to the historic building as well as the construction of a three-story addition completed in two phases.

The first phase included installation of temporary classrooms, a temporary gym, and updates to site utilities as well as conversion of original school spaces into a temporary cafeteria/kitchen and 21,000 square feet of demolition.

The second phase included restoration of the building's façade as well as salvaging and reuse of limestone and other historic features of the building.  Interior work included asbestos and lead paint abatement, fit-outs of permanent classrooms labs, mechanical systems and an auditorium with 1,000 seats.
