Turner was founded in 1902 as a general contractor and self-perform concrete business. A pioneer in the use of reinforced concrete, by the 1920’s Turner had built 70 percent of the concrete buildings in New York City.

Today, self-perform work remains a key part of our vision: to be the highest-value provider of global construction services and technical expertise.

Self-performing work gives Turner and our clients increased control over the safety, quality, schedule, and budget.

Turner's Self-Perform group in Hunstville, Alabama recently completed the concrete scope of work for a 136,000-square-foot manufacturing facility for Aerojet Rocketdyne. The building required 130 insulated tilt-up concrete wall panels, which were poured in formwork created by the Self-Perform group within the footprint of the building on its concrete slab. The first pour was for a wall panel 72 feet high, 18 inches thick and 22 feet wide and it weighed more than 110,000 pounds.
