Wishes Not Taken For Granted

December 09, 2015

For the third year in a row, members of Turner’s team in Malaysia dressed to the nines and stepped out for an evening of good cheer, good company, good luck, and most importantly good will at Make A Wish Malaysia’s annual Wish Ball.

As it was their third consecutive year participating in the event—purchasing multiple tables and taking part in both live and silent auctions—the team decided to take things to a new level: in past years they raised enough to sponsor a single child’s wish, but this year, with an extra effort from the Malaysia staff and a generous boost from Turner, they were able to channel their inner genie and grant the classic three wishes.

Andrew DeFonzo, project superintendent, also had a very lucky night, winning an autographed jersey from soccer player Francesco Totti, a four-day cruise, a flat screen TV, and a number of other small gifts that he quickly distributed amongst the Turner team. But more than his surprise winnings, Andrew was excited about the impact of Turner’s increased participation on the kids. “It was a great event once again, but the cherry on the top of the whole night was the fact that Turner International was able to sponsor three wishes for children with life-threatening conditions,” he said.

One child (five years old) will get to stand side by side with his heroes by becoming a policeman for a day, another (seven years old) will soar through the air as he and his family get to fulfill his dream of flying in a helicopter, and finally, another (seven years old) will travel with her family to discover the magic of Disneyland Hong Kong.

“Thanks to my co-workers who helped contribute to sponsor these wishes, and thanks to all the amazing volunteers at Make A Wish Malaysia who do so much. I can’t even put it into words,” added Andrew.
