Turner Breaks Ground on Etiqa Office Tower Project

April 01, 2015

The Turner International team at the Etiqa office tower project in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, recently completed preconstruction and broke ground on the insurance company’s latest development project.

The 38-story, 494,000-square-foot structure will be built on tight site and use a top-down construction process, two aspects of the project that Peter Duffy, project manager, describes as major challenges. “The new building is positioned tightly between two adjacent medium / high rise commercial towers with a live light rail train running parallel to the opposite site boundary, and access to the site is restricted to one entrance which is located in heavily congested zone,” explained Peter. “This means the sequence of operations and scheduling for activities such as soil removal and concrete deliveries will be key to the success of the project.”

The project is seeking two sustainability certifications: gold certification under the Green Building Index and platinum certification under GreenRe. Key features required to achieve the certifications include energy efficient mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and fixtures, renewable construction materials and sustainable site development.

Owner Etiqa Insurance Berhad is scheduled to celebrate the tower’s grand opening in early 2018.
