project at a glance

The 1.6 million square foot, United Airlines Terminal Complex is a 42-gate facility composed of parallel, 1,600-foot-long concourse buildings that allow aircraft to taxi in two directions at once. Passenger ticketing and baggage claim facilities, as well as gate rooms adjacent to 14 aircraft parking positions are housed in the front while the rear satellite concourse has gate rooms for up to 28 planes. The buildings are connected underground by a tunnel of moving sidewalks and adjoining walkways for passenger transport carts. The superstructure is a framework of folded truss steel with a glass skin. Barrel-vaulted circulation spines run the length of both buildings.
