Turner Tops Out at the International African American Museum

Turner Tops Out at the International African American Museum

The team from Turner Construction Company in the Carolinas recently achieved an important milestone for the International African American Museum with the project's topping out, marking the placement of the structure’s final steel beam.

Team members, major donors, board members, and elected officials attended the ceremony, while abiding COVID-19 safety measures.

“I am beyond filled with joy to be a part of such a powerful project that will showcase African American history and allow people to trace their lineage,” said Turner Engineer, Bri’Shae Anderson.

The Museum will explore cultures adapted by Africans in the Americas, and the diverse journeys and achievements of these individuals and their descendants. The African Ancestors Memorial Garden will be a place to enjoy botanical gardens, artistic displays, an infinity fountain, and a soundscape that explores diverse African performances, programs, and languages. The Museum will also include the Center for Family History, a resource for the study of African American genealogy, that will enable visitors to learn more about their connections to Africa and the African diaspora.

The construction of the Museum is progressing as planned, and is projected to open in early 2022.
