New division positions Turner  as more nimble, responsive to small-scale projects

Turner Construction Company's Nashville office today announced the creation of a special projects division (SPD), which will give the construction firm the agility to be more reactive to small-scale commercial projects. Kevin Williams will lead the new division as SPD Manager.

Williams joined Turner as project manager in 2004 and was promoted to senior project manager in 2012. As SPD Manager, he will be responsible for all aspects of the division – from overseeing preconstruction planning and estimating to staffing each project.

“Kevin has significant experience managing healthcare and commercial projects of all scopes,” said John Gromos, who heads Turner’s Nashville office. “His leadership skills and industry knowledge made him an easy choice to lead our new special projects division.

“The special projects division will perform non-structural tenant build-out and renovation work, along with select stand-alone structures, with budgets ranging from around $10,000 to $30 million,” Gromos added. “Nashville will continue to be brimming with commercial opportunity and the creation of this new division will allow us to allocate the appropriate
resources to be even more responsive to the market.”

Turner’s SPD will handle projects like the $7.5 million worth of work to renovate the lobby and four floors of the iconic UBS building downtown and the construction of Alive Hospice’s new $4.5 million residence in Murfreesboro.

“The special projects division is a reflection of our goal to provide smaller-scale and interior construction projects with Turner’s management support, efficiency, flexibility and sensitivity to client needs,” Williams said. “We plan to restructure how we staff jobs to offer more lean, efficient, cost-effective services.”

Turner’s special projects division will handle jobs in the Middle Tennessee, West Tennessee and Northern Alabama markets. Currently comprised of 15 employees, the new division will look to hire additional team members toward the beginning of 2016. SPD services include preconstruction planning and estimating, general contracting, construction management, design-build services, LEED planning and strategizing, risk management, and more.
