The Museum of Modern Art, Expansion Project

MoMA Expansion and Renovation, A Seamless Four-Year Project

After providing extensive preconstruction services, Turner completed an expansion/renovation project for The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). The project that was completed while the museum remained open was sequenced in six phases over the course of four years. Phase I of the project included a Bauhaus Staircase and 10,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space. A data center was completed in Phase II. During Phase III, a 40,000 square foot addition was constructed in-place of the Folk Art Museum that was demolished by Turner. Within the addition is a box-in-box studio, cafe and mechanical support space. Phase IV, amenity spaces included a lobby lounge, and retail boutique. New gallery space was added to an adjacent residential tower as part of Phase V. Phase VI renovations where completed at the museum included a repositioned lobby along with a five-story "blade stair".
