Turner Special Projects was chosen by the City of Mountain View to provide preconstruction, construction management and LEED Commissioning services for the state-of-the-art, Fire Station No. 5. This project, designed to obtain LEED Silver Certification, is the very first LEED project undertaken by the City of Mountain View.

The Fire Station building will be located at the northeast corner of North Shoreline Boulevard and Crittenden Lane in Mountain View. The existing Fire Station will remain fully operational during construction, which is scheduled to take 12 months. The project scope consists of the demolition of the existing temporary station and associated site work, construction of a two story, approximately 10,000 square foot steel framed brick and cast stone veneer building and rerouted electrical and communications services.

The north side of Fire Station No. 5 will include a patio, a vegetable and fruit garden and Firefighter parking, as well as allow for washing and maintenance of the trucks. In keeping with the traditional brick fire station design, the building will consist of an apparatus bay, tower and dormitory, as well as a secondary area for storage and exercise.

In order to meet the City of Mountain View’s goal of LEED Silver Certification through the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Turner will perform all LEED fundamental building systems commissioning. Noteworthy LEED credits will be sought under the On-Site Renewable Energy category for the solar hot water system. Turner has developed the commissioning plan, maintenance plan and commissioning reports as required by the USGBC. Turner is responsible for on-site construction management as well as securing information to develop all required commissioning documentation and coordination.

Turner very successfully managed the Mountain View Public Library, Senior Center, Shoreline Maintenance Facility and the Child Care Center projects. The team looks forward to continuing their long and successful relationship with the City of Mountain View spanning the past 15 years.
