LaMattina Wildlife Ambassador Center and Special Care Unit

project at a glance

The LaMattina Wildlife Ambassador Center and Special Care Unit for the Global Center for Wildlife Health at the Bronx Zoo comprises two buildings.

The Wildlife Ambassador Center houses the animals used in outreach and education programs held in classrooms throughout the park, as well as animals from the Children's Zoo during the winter season. The facility will include a kitchen and break room, a nursery, office spaces, locker rooms and restrooms for staff and guests.

The Special Care Unit is designed to provide a quarantine for recently arrived animals, and those that need medical separation. With flexible environmental controls - the temperature and humidity conditions are designed to accommodate the needs of many species - the Special Care Unit also includes air filtration and exhaust systems that exceed regulatory requirements.

Both buildings are prusing LEED Silver certification.
