The Rockefeller University, Welch Hall

Modernization Program

Welch Hall, the final piece of a modernization program was one of the most difficult to complete. Notwithstanding complex site logistics, the project team meticulously restored ornate features such as wood paneling, ceilings, as well as elaborate chandeliers. The 40,000 sq. ft. scope of work, also included two landscaped gardens. Completed on time and within budget, Turner transformed the building into a state-of-the-art facility. The first floor was converted into a conference center, accommodating board meetings and lectures. The second floor was upgraded with reading spaces and a lounge. The third floor mezzanine was outfitted with faculty offices, while the two basement levels were repositioned to accommodate library stacks, study carrels, and a training room. In addition, MEP upgrades were completed throughout to support these new spaces.
