Building Shell’s New Plant in Beaver County

Turner was contracted by Bechtel via three separate contracts as part of Shell’s Pennsylvania Chemicals Project in Monaca, PA. This facility, now Shell Polymers Monaca, produces 1.6 million tons of polyethylene pellets per year. Turner’s scope of work included the construction of nine buildings on the 386-acre site. The buildings included five permanent plant buildings (totaling 210,000 sq. ft.), two rail buildings (totaling 40,000 sq. ft.), an administration building (65,000 sq. ft.) and a Fire-Medical facility (15,000 sq. ft.). The project was located directly adjacent to the Ohio River. Throughout the course of the project, Turner was responsible for ensuring close coordination with all stakeholders associated with the construction of the plant. This project involved complex site logistics and a heightened attention to jobsite safety and security.
