Shaker Heights Public Library Renovation

Historic Renovation Revealed

Historic Shaker Heights Library underwent an interior and exterior renovation to the main library starting in July of 2020. The design was based on creating “neighborhoods” within the building that serve the various needs of library patrons. Neighborhoods included Town Square, Tech Corridor, Children’s and Gateway. A major component of the interior renovations was the insertion of a monumental stair into the two-story central collections area, and creating large openings from the second floor looking down into the central area. The scope of work included new finishes throughout, and new HVAC systems, lighting and technology. Exterior renovation work included envelope repairs that stabilize the existing historic masonry and stone finishes. Scope of work included roof replacement and repair, repair to damaged masonry and stone, and installation of flashing around windows.
