Princeton University Frick Chemistry Building

New state-of-the-art 265,000 sq. ft. academic science facility for the chemistry department at Princeton University

This project consisted of a 5-story, 265,000 sq. ft. academic science facility (90,000 sq. ft. of laboratory space). The state-of-the-art science facility houses the chemistry department and accommodates 20 laboratories for research/teaching, laboratories for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)/Mass Spectrometry/Catalysis/Laser, faculty offices, and administrative offices. This project also included a steel/concrete hybrid structure, 260 seat auditorium, 4-story sky-lit atrium, pedestrian bridges, over 400 German high-end fume hoods that had an automatic sash closure that was tied to the BMS for energy savings, several large MRI’s, spiral and exposed duct mains, operable office doors. The building is a composite structure of 1,564 tons of steel, 18,309 cubic yards of concrete with 6-story core walls. The penthouse and basement house 12 air handlers producing a total of 478,160 CFM. This project had many sustainable features.
