The new terminal is a 2,744,797 sq. ft. area and will serve a capacity of 27 million passengers per annum. Inspired by Bengaluru’s historic reputation of being India’s “Garden City”, the expansion of Terminal 2 at Kempegowda International Airport has been managed by Turner India
The USGBC LEED Gold certified sustainability-focused terminal will use renewable energy through Photovoltaic (PV) panels on the roof, low-flow water fixtures, and extensive natural daylighting, and is part of a water-neutral campus using a series of rainwater harvesting ponds and on-site water treatment to meet all the terminal’s water needs.
This project is founded on four pillars: technological leadership, the idea of a terminal in a garden, environmental and ecological stewardship, and a celebration of Karnataka’s rich heritage and culture.
A large indoor garden feel with laterite walls and waterfalls will feature throughout the terminal, providing a gateway into nature.
Between the main headhouse and piers, passengers will also be able to enjoy a vast, three-story “forest belt” designed to create an immersive and calming outdoor experience.
In addition to the new terminal building, the development includes a 1.6 million square feet multi-modal transit hub featuring a multi-level carpark with electric charging stations, a metro station, and a retail/dining hub.
