Kaiser Permanente Irvine Medical Center

Quality and Safety Excellence

This multi-phase project at the Kaiser Permanente Irvine Hospital Campus included a remodel and expansion of the existing third floor of the facility to create a 14-bed NICU, build-out of two floors for the addition of 96 medical-surgical beds, and a central utility plant expansion to support the additions. Due to the sensitivity of the NICU environment and the need to accelerate the delivery of the beds, the team put an emphasis on collaborating with hospital operations for safety and quality using lean construction techniques during this critical phase.

The project was delivered one month ahead of schedule with returned savings to the owner and a 100% pass rate on more than 336 inspections. When the project was complete, the Irvine Medical Center NICU team received an award for Quality and Safety Excellence from the client – the first ever issued by Kaiser Permanente.
