Howard University Interdisciplinary Research Building

Rising six stories on the corner of Georgia Avenue and W Street, the Interdisciplinary Research Building stands prominently as a symbol of Howard University’s research acumen, welcoming students, faculty, and researchers to its campus. Two retail spaces at the ground level welcome and integrate the community into this highly specialized building.  The building provides research faculty and students with a 21st century learning environment in a LEED Gold certified, energy efficient environment that incorporates state-of-the-art technology with educational design standards. Due to stringent requirements associated with Nanotechnology research, this facility was designed and constructed mitigating the project site’s vibration, acoustical, RFI/EMI potential impacts on nano-research undertakings, including the facilities level 100, 1,000 and 10,000 clean rooms.  Lab spaces occupy the majority of the building, and the overall goal is to provide both highly specialized spaces for specific disciplines of research as well as “core” lab spaces and functions for interdisciplinary methods of study.
