Hassalo on Eighth

The Transformation of a Parking Lot into a Vibrant, Eco-Friendly, 24-Hour Community

Hassalo on Eighth is a 1,144,324 sq. ft. mixed-use, multi-block, luxury apartment development with 500,000 sq. ft. of underground parking.

The urban neighborhood also included 50,000 sq. ft. of retail space, over 650 residential units, immediate access to the Portland MAX light-rail and Portland Streetcar system, a community plaza, and 38,000 sq. ft. of green roofs spanning across all three buildings.

One of the first urban neighborhoods to treat and recycle wastewater onsite.

One of the standout sustainability features on the multi-block development is NORM, a Natural Organic Recycling Machine. NORM treats 48,000 gallons of water per day through a centralized treatment system designed to divert 100% of wastewater generated by the three buildings. Designed by GBD Architects, Glumac and PLACE Studio, NORM treats wastewater onsite for reuse, redirecting it away from stressed city sewer infrastructure.
